Barnaby Newton is Skipper of Ata Rangi. With 16 years’ experience and numerous voyages to the South Pacific Islands
including Tahiti, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.
Responsible for the crew, safety of the vessel and all persons on board, Barnaby has been with Ata Rangi since her inception, overseeing the design and build.
Since her maiden voyage, Barnaby has sailed Ata Rangi from America to the Bahamas, Costa Rica, Mexico and Panama. A keen fisherman, sailor and diver with an exceptional knowledge of New Zealand waters, he will work with you to ensure that your escape on board Ata Rangi is as relaxing or action-filled as you wish.
Abby has been in the yachting industry for the past three years. Prior to joining Ata Rangi, Abby was working onboard
an expedition yacht in the role of sous chef and stewardess. While onboard her previous boat she spent time in the
Mediterranean, Central America and Alaska with her longest voyage being 28 days.
Abby is passionate about cooking seafood and experimenting with flavours from different cultures. Working on Ata Rangi has already been a highlight for her, as she loves being a part of catching the fish and preparing it for the table. She loves being on the water “it’s good for the soul” as well as ensuring guests and crew are happy and satisfied.
Calvin is Ata Rangi’s engineer. Originally from South Africa, Calvin was raised and home schooled on his family’s
sailing boat as a “Live Aboard”. He moved to New Zealand in 2011.
Calvin has spent four years in the Caribbean, two years in the Meditteranean, two years in the Indian Ocean and five years in the South Pacific. His professional sailing career started in 2005, and he has completed coastal cruising on sail and power vessels totalling over 90 000 nautical miles. Calvin is a keen kite boarder on his days off.
Roddy is the Deckhand aboard Ata Rangi. Roddy spent his childhood fishing, sailing, wake boarding and free diving and
his natural progression to a career on the water happened over ten years ago. Roddy has sailed to numerous South
Pacific islands, exploring remote regions and bringing over seven years of luxury yachting experience to his resume.
Most of his professional career has been cruising the wild Pacific. During this time Roddy has extensively fished for marlin, sailfish, salmon and halibut. He has a passion for photography and is rarely without his camera.
